Landowner Biodiversity Conservation Incentives

The Council hosted the Washington Forum for Conservation Incentives. This interactive event was intended to expand and deepen the dialogue on how landowner incentives can help achieve biodiversity conservation and preservation of agricultural and forestry landscapes.

Nearly 150 people attended the Forum, held at Tacoma's Landmark Convention Center on January 5, 2007.

Proceedings from the Forum, including the plenary talks and breakout group discussions are now available.

In response to the tremendous interest evident at the Forum, the Council is sponsoring the Washington Conservation Incentives Listserv. The intent of this discussion list is to provide an opportunity to share information about how landowner incentives and market-based programs can help achieve biodiversity conservation and preservation of agricultural and forestry landscapes in Washington State.

Early in its research phase, the Council conducted a preliminary assessment of existing landowner biodiversity conservation incentive programs. This included developing a catalogue and an inventory.

Findings from these dialogues and research have been integrated into the development of the Washington Biodiversity Conservation Strategy (5 MB pdf).
