Conservation Districts
Conservation Districts serve a primary role in connecting landowners with technical and financial assistance. The local conservation district is often the best place to start a search for a program to help with a conservation project.
Department of Ecology Wetland Stewardship
The Department of Ecology publishes Exploring Wetland Stewardship: A Guide for Washington Landowners and Communities as part of its wetlands protection and management program. This 346 page notebook describes wetland stewardship techniques and ways to get assistance with planning or implementing projects. It features a complete directory of assistance programs available for wetland stewardship in Washington State.
InfrastructureDATABASE
The InfrastructureDATABASE is a searchable resource for locating infrastructure funding or technical assistance in Washington State. It is sponsored by the Infrastructure Assistance Coordinating Council (IACC). “Infrastructure” includes the built and natural infrastructure: roads, streets, water systems, sewer systems, wetlands, sensitive environmental areas, air quality, and others.
Ruckelshaus Center Agriculture Pilot Projects Report
The Agriculture Pilot Projects Report, available at the website of the William D. Ruckelshaus Center (formerly the WSU-UW Policy Consensus Center), contains a list of incentive programs in Appendix E.
Small Forest Landowner Office
The Small Forest Landowner Office is part of Washington’s Department of Natural Resources. Its mission is to promote the economic and ecological viability of small forest landowners, and it seeks to develop policies that conserve Washington's privately owned non-industrial forests. Among other resources, it publishes a booklet, Financial Assistance Programs for Small Forest Landowners. (pdf, 439 KB).
Washington State University, King County Extension
The Watersheds and Environment program of King County Extension offers A Summary of Land Conservation Options for Landowners in the Puget Sound Area. The brochure, available for Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Mason, and Pierce counties, provides a broad overview and tells where to obtain more detailed information.

Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection
The Catalog of Federal Funding Sources for Watershed Protection is offered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The catalog is a searchable database of financial assistance sources (grants, loans, cost-sharing) available to fund watershed protection projects nation-wide.
Private Landowner Network
The Private Landowner Network is a national project of the Resources First Foundation to develop an Internet based resource to facilitate and encourage private landowner conservation endeavors. It has been designed to bring together service providers and information to assist voluntary private land conservation initiatives.
Restoration Marketplace
The Restoration Marketplace bills itself as the "One-Stop Web Portal for the Restoration Community." Produced by Restore America's Estuaries, the Restoration Marketplace offers a Federal Funding Guide, an online searchable database of federal funding opportunities from 1996 to the present. It lists federal programs that provide restoration project funding throughout the country and for a wide array of habitat, activity and recipient types.
The Rocky Mountain Agricultural Landowners Guide
The Rocky Mountain Agricultural Landowners Guide (950 KB pdf) is a product of a partnership between American Farmland Trust and Coleman Natural Foods. It outlines tools and federal and state programs to help farmers and ranchers conserve their land and maintain its long term health.
